Recently, three cities in Florida have become the favorite target for ransomware attacks after a third local government was struck by the malware within the last few weeks.

The statistics above show that the leading cause of ransomware infections are phishing scams, which are about 66%. Also, in the recent Florida cases, the malware made its way onto local government computers when an employee clicked on an email link that allowed it to be uploaded.

Also, here are some crazy Ransomware Stats:

  • Ransomware costs businesses more than $75 billion per year. (Source: Datto)
  • A new organization will fall victim to ransomware every 14 seconds in 2019, and every 11 seconds by 2021. (Source: Cyber Security Ventures)
  • In 2019 ransomware from phishing emails increased 109 percent over 2017. (Source: PhishMe)

Ransomware is a form of malware or a virus that prevents users from accessing their systems or data until a sum of money is paid. Ransomware is commonly delivered through phishing emails or via “drive-by downloads”.

Phishing emails often appear as though they have been sent from a legitimate organization or someone known to the victim and entice the user to click on a malicious link or open a malicious attachment.

How could you protect your organization from such attacks?

  • Try encrypting your data or in other words, Azure Information Protection (AIP). It is a cloud-based solution that helps organizations protect its documents and emails by applying labels. You can classify (and optionally protect) your documents as highly confidential to prevent data leakage or misuse.
  • Alternatively, you can also go for Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection. Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) safeguards your organization against malicious threats posed by email messages, links (URLs) and collaboration tools.

It’s better late than never. Wake up now or else pay the Ransom!

According to Forbes, 74% of CFO’s say cloud computing had the most measurable impact on their business in 2017.

It is time to get rid of office servers or minimize the number of servers you have; you are unnecessarily increasing your companies’ risk. With on-premise servers, just like any other physical equipment, things tend to break. This can lead to loss of valuable information, not to mention the time and money wasted on replacing the server. Even if the server doesn’t break, the typical life span of a server is 3-5 years. This means within five years of buying a server you will need to replace it. Your IT team or IT guy are already spending weeks planning for that replacement.  How much is that costing you? On-premise servers over cloud-based options like OneDrive or SharePoint, require more money spent along with more time wasted (due to installation and delivery of the servers) compared to these cloud-based alternatives.

So, if I want to reduce my costs and risk what should I do? Get OneDrive, SharePoint, or get an Office 365 Business Premium plan (1 year – $12.50 user/month) which includes both programs and more!

OneDrive is an internet-based storage platform that stores your documents in the cloud. While this can be purchased individually, Microsoft offers it to anyone with a Microsoft account. Microsoft offers it for free to its users with the free storage typically being around only 5 to 15 GB’s. For as little as 5$ per user/month you can get 1 TB of storage space.

SharePoint is a cloud-based service, hosted by Microsoft, for businesses of all sizes. Instead of installing and deploying SharePoint Server on-premises, any business can subscribe to an Office 365 plan or the standalone SharePoint Online service. You and your employees can create sites to share documents and information with colleagues, partners, and customers all without having to have a physical server on-premise.

While both are great tools for one to have, using them together is ideal. Both OneDrive and SharePoint allow its users to do things like co-author, which is when multiple people simultaneously work on one document, and file share (both internal and external) all from the Microsoft Cloud. The real question is when you should use each of them.

For OneDrive, personal storage is the main goal. Everyone in the company gets their own OneDrive account, allowing them to safely save documents that are not meant to be shared such as personal documents or drafts that are not quite ready to be presented.

SharePoint on the other hand, is typically best used to collaborate on files with others in your organization. SharePoint is also where you would go to publish your files for all to see.

Ideally, by using both OneDrive and SharePoint, a user can have a saved copy of their work on OneDrive until they are finished with it. Then they would upload it to SharePoint for everyone to see. This would also allow others to give input and even update the document from SharePoint.

Both OneDrive and SharePoint are very useful tools and are simply better options to have than just on-premise servers. Do more for your business, get OneDrive and SharePoint.

Microsoft introduces a new way to give teams an unprecedented level of collaboration to meet the demand of the new modern workforce.

Microsoft has launched its next-generation Surface hub 2S, an all-in-one collaboration device built for teamwork. It has a 50 inch display with a 4K pixel resolution as well as a lighter and thinner design.

Surface Hub 2S is a transportable computing display that can be wheeled from one meeting room to another. Microsoft Teams is a workplace chat app that has integrated everything Office 365 offers and keeps it all in one convenient location.

Microsoft Teams is all about keeping its users working together. While Teams has tons of functions, like integrated apps, bots to help guide and work for you, enterprise-level security and more, its main goal is to allow its users an easy and secure way to speak about work, all while building team chemistry.

In today’s work climate, team chemistry can make or break your business. If everyone is not on the same page it can lead to disastrous results and we want the opposite of that. We can achieve this through the use of the Microsoft Teams chat.

The Teams chat is such a useful tool to have. Long gone are the days of slow back and forth emails between colleagues. Nowadays everyone wants a response ASAP and Teams allows people to deliver on that.

With the Teams chat, people can be connected immediately in a number of ways. You can simply text chat people or do things like call or video chat, all while being completely secure through the Microsoft cloud. Users can create teams in channels for specific projects and add the users they want into a specific team.

Here is an example of how useful this chat is. Let’s say you need advice on a project. All you would have to do is message a coworker, share your screen (by pressing one button inside the chat window) and they can see exactly what you see, allowing a simple and efficient way to give feedback. Also, if they wanted to add something, you could just give them control and they can add whatever they need. Instead of you having to email them the entire document and wait for it to get back to you before working on it again.

Teams is so simple yet so useful for workers because the benefit of quickly receiving feedback allows for peoples creativity to continue flowing instead of the typical ups and downs, we normally face.

One of the best features Teams has is the ability to add a Task from Microsoft Planner directly into a Team. This allows us to breakdown the work into tangible tasks and make everyone aware of the To Dos for a project. Such as a Task to meet weekly with reminders directly into our Outlook. This way, once we are in a chat, we will be organized as to what we talk about and have a clear path to get us to our goal.

Like the old saying “time is money”, staying productive at work will bring you more profits. Teams is a great way to add value and build productivity throughout your business. Don’t miss out, with Teams you can be the most productive you have ever been!

The mistake of deleting files by accident or deleting files with the thought that it wouldn’t have any value anymore can now be revoked. Microsoft Office 365’s One Drive for Business brings a new chance to its users to retrieve files within a 30-day grace period.

“Files Restore”, the name of this feature, can track the changes that have been made on a file through a chart presentation. You may access your One Drive, and search for “Files Restore” to select the chosen time and date that you want the version of the file to be restored.

Users have long been requesting this feature to correct their mishaps on significant files. There are instances when the latest version of your file is not the exact file that you need. Aside from mistakenly deleted file scenarios, previous versions of files that have been later infected by malware can also be recovered. Now files that have been altered, corrected, overwritten, and consequently deleted can be recovered through “Files Restore”.

Microsoft dubbed it as a “complete self-service recovery solution”. It empowers the user to pinpoint the file that they need to review and retrieve. Document versions can be reviewed for the entire duration of thirty days from the day that is deleted. Based on “Support for Office”, all types of forms including PDFs, photos, videos, and others are permissible to be recovered through “Version History”.

It is essential that the file is still within the “Recycle Bin” and that “Version History” is turned on so that this feature can be fully used.

Updates come from time to time to improve a system. The Night Light is an update that has been helping its users maintain not just their productivity but their health as well. It has been months since this feature was launched but it still resonates well with the public as it reflected the social responsibility that Windows 10 carried for its users.

Night Light reduces the blue light emitted by your screen that harms your eyesight and affects a person’s melatonin (the sleep hormone) level. When someone is exposed to blue light at night time, one’s melatonin level is decreased which makes it difficult to sleep.  One could also experience chronic eyestrain from overexposure to blue light.

It is common for some business owners and employees to work past six in the evening which makes this feature a great asset when it comes to health concerns.

One can enable the Night Light feature by heading to the computer’s “Settings”, then “System”, then “Display”.  Under the display option, you can turn on the night light. The computer will automatically be on night light mode at the desired specific night time schedule while the color temperature could also be adjusted up to its warmest tone.

This is Windows 10’s feature  that is gentle to your eyes and has been embedded in the Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703).

As an operating system(OS), Windows 10 can be acquired through the bundle price of $20.00 per user/month via Microsoft 365.  Windows 10 is part of the Microsoft 365 package alongside with Office 365 and Enterprise Mobility + Security.

U.S.-Based Customer Immersion Experience (CIE) Boot Camp Develops More CIE Trainers For CSE

Technical Services Manager Eric Fuentes, Sales Manager Victor Sai and Operations Manager Gerald Villanueva, delegates of Computer Solutions East Inc. (CSE), attended Microsoft’s Customer Immersion Experience Boot Camp training held at the New York Microsoft Technology Center, 7th Floor, 11 Times Square, New York, USA, on September 26-29, 2017.

Microsoft Customer Immersion Experience is a simulation of real-life business operational problems that provides Microsoft-product oriented solutions. CIE partner facilitators were there to guide the delegates in undergoing this experience.

Delegates Fuentes, Sai, and Villanueva unanimously viewed the Customer Immersion Experience as a holistic journey to engage in. “As a facilitator, I now listen, guide, and inspire my customers, and create those ‘wow’ moments.  I don’t aim to deliver a 3-hour sales presentation—rather I [should] enable people to explore and [to] discover through an innovative hands-on experience,” Sai expounded.

Coming from different departments in the company, they had various takes on how CIE nurtured them as future practitioners of this experience-centered sales method.  Villanueva felt that being a non-technical person played to his advantage, so he can facilitate and speak the language of the customers.  “CIE is where you understand how to effectively sell the product without directly telling them to buy the product,” Fuentes explained. Villanueva discerned it as “a training that enables a person to sell by convincing the customer to use the product”. While Sai believed that, “CIE Training is a powerful tool that allows all Microsoft partners to access the resources we need to effectively sell the value of Microsoft services, drive sales and deployment, and create a unique, fun and engaging environment for all our customers”

Contrary to their expectations that it would be a typical training with traditional product presentations, demos, and slide presentations that would heavily use technical jargons and statistics, it was instinctively facilitated with a free-flowing manner through the laying out of concepts by Mr. Mike O’Neill from BrainStorm, Incorporation.  Sai affirmed that “CIE puts a customer in the driver’s seat for a rich and interactive experience. It is a unique and risk-free opportunity to explore Microsoft’s Office applications in a ‘true-to-life’ environment”.

The integration of real-life instances gave a more personal touch throughout the training since it was relatable and the necessity for the product was subtly ingrained.  “The training mainly focused on letting the customer drive the conversation and letting them find out the answer themselves. Oftentimes, you really have to give customers real-life experiences that they can easily relate to and show how the product would have played its part into the story,” Villanueva explained.

They believe that CIE could change the platform towards gaining optimum business productivity by concentrating on customer engagement and the assimilation of Microsoft products in every situation throughout the office. “CIE takes us through everyday business situations, such as working remotely, analyzing sales data, and collaborating with coworkers, and lets us see how Microsoft products make it all easy, convenient, and secure,” Sai added.

Fuentes emphasized the importance of practicing after the training to have a well-rounded grasp and execution of post-CIE. Thus, they would love to recommend this to be experienced firsthand by their colleagues.  “As a CIE Certified Facilitator, I have gained the presentation skills, soft skills, and technology skills that help me lead my customer to discovering the right solutions for their business and helps them experience the ‘future of productivity’,” Sai said.

CSE felt that the four-day training was more than worth it for equipping them with the methodology of effective client engagement. The focus on the immersion was important since  this is the key to recognizing the importance of Microsoft products. As Sai puts it, “they can really be powerful resources in helping us accelerate our sales of Microsoft products and services”. It has equipped them with practical lessons that they could easily execute to the clients.  “CIE sessions will let you experience the product to a whole new level,” Villanueva stated.

“CIE prepares CSE to become more successful in the coming days. This training lets you feel and relate to the experiences of one’s business, and provides help to make things easier for them,” Villanueva asserted.
