2018 will not be the lone year that data will be viewed as an immediate concern foreshadowing the implementation of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on May 25, 2018. IT privacy and security compliance will continue to be significant to small and medium sized businesses with the development and implementations of regulations that may affect their regular operations.

Integrated Solution

Designed for organizations with 300 members and below, Microsoft 365 Business is specifically created to answer the needs of small and medium-sized businesses.  Considering that they have smaller resources and lower manpower compared to enterprises, they can get the value that is practically at par to the services enjoyed by enterprises. Microsoft 365 Business is an integrated, complete, intelligent solution that bundles productivity, security, and device management through Office 365, Windows 10, and Enterprise Mobility + Security.

With ‘Intelligent for Security,’ as one of Microsoft 365’s core principles, it has features that prove its worth, such as “Compliance Manager” that is relevant in proactively dealing with GDPR. Compliance Manager automatically monitors your system to ensure you are following regulations.

Microsoft Azure’s features and applications can be put to the test by another cybersecurity threat that leaves the user’s identity at risk. The instances of account lock out and password spray attacks are attempting to be resolved by using Azure Active Directory Pass-through authentication. The culprit behind password spray attacks tries to break in through accounts that use generic passwords.  Companies are advised to discourage their employees from using cliché passwords that an attacker could easily guess. Massive amounts of company data can be compromised if the account has been accessed.

The Azure multi-factor authentication functions as a double-edged verification for identity by sending passcodes via phone, confirming codes via alternate email, and checking through another device.

The Azure Active directory is known as a secured identity and access management solution. Risk events in Azure Active Directory signal the potential security breaches occurring in the server.  Doubtful sign-ins are flagged and classified under high, medium, or low risk level. The detection may either be discovered online and offline. Based on Microsoft, the risk events can be any of the following: users with leaked credentials, sign-ins from infected device or from IP addresses with suspicious activity, from unfamiliar locations, or from anonymous IP addresses.

The Privileged Identity Management of Azure Active Directory helps in identifying suspicious access and attempts on accounts by sending notifications and reports to the administrator.

Database Migration

Updates mean increased security. The issues of migration to cloud are now more simplified with the March 2018 update for Azure Database migration service.  Users can expect a more comprehensible walkthrough in setting it up, from building instances of Azure SQL Database Managed Instance, to monitoring via Azure Database Migration Service.

Microsoft is working on more improvements for their set of cloud-based applications.

Office 365 has innovative business apps to answer the needs of small and medium businesses. These business apps are Microsoft Connections, Outlook Customer Manager, Microsoft Listings, Microsoft Bookings, Microsoft Invoicing, and MileIQ. In a recent speaking engagement, the progress and potential of Microsoft’s productivity platform in the cloud, Office 365 was announced by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella.

Nadella also cited Power BI, its business intelligence in the cloud that delivers promising results to its consumers with its highly defined charts and data analysis tools.

Despite the stiff competition in the market of cloud platform and servers, Microsoft stands by their staple offerings: Office 365, Microsoft 365, and Power BI.

Being conscious of the needs of its consumers, Microsoft embeds extra security features for Microsoft 365 and Azure Information Protection for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance. It also supplies information about GDPR so that their consumers can grasp the effects of the said regulation. These features can be utilized even more since consumers can monitor their own consumption.

Microsoft is continually becoming more receptive to its consumers as they combine the values of key business devices with an integrated solution like the Microsoft 365 bundle.

Aside from the regular updates, there has been additional offerings in Microsoft Teams, the chat-based work collaboration tool in Office 365, as well as, an inclusion of an editor feature in Microsoft Word.

Microsoft shows no sign of complacency as they continue to keep up with the times and offer even more benefits to their customers.

Microsoft has begun its call for the participation of all key sectors to have a mandate or general solution for the recurring problems of e-mail phishing, lockdowns by ransomwares, hacking of company databases, and system interruptions since 2017. One of the notable suggestions is the creation of a digital Geneva Convention where countries will make a pact and gather to create rules and amendments they all agree on that can spare all civilians from being collateral damage of intercountry cyberwarfare

Based on “Today in Technology: A Rundown of Microsoft’s Top Ten Immediate Concerns”, they have acknowledged the fact that as a tech company, they have the interconnected responsibility to respond to global and local issues; even if it may not seem to be closely linked to technology.

Cybersecurity tops the list for tech related concerns. Microsoft recognizes the importance of defending civilians from becoming victims of state-sponsored cybersecurity attacks by involving the whole industry, government, and countries in settling cyber concerns. Privacy, rural communities’ broadband access, artificial intelligence, net neutrality, computer science in school curriculum, and IT sector globalization concerns have earned their spots in a growing list of concerns, as well as, proven to be critical issues that need to be addressed in the changing times. The impact of the effects of information technology usage keep on expanding each day. It is evident from the growing need of individuals for internet accessibility from the May 2018 worldwide implementation of European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.

Concerns like diversity, immigration, and sustainability may be seem surprising to be on the list but they have extensively shown the relevance of a tech company to take a stand and an initiative to propel changes in those issues. Through diversity and polarization of ideals on ‘#MeToo,’ LGBTQ, sexual harassment and more, Microsoft made its stand in upholding a legislation to provide a workplace that is molded in equality and respect.

2018 appears to be a strong year for Microsoft’s clients and ordinary civilians whom the company pledges social responsibility to, by being a proactive player in improving lives through technology.

The frequent checking of your phone has been the noticeable norm in today’s smartphone age. The total number of glances and checking of notifications could amount to nearly more than three hours per day, based on a study.

In the April 2016 edition of “eMarketer”, research showed that the average time spent per day on the phone by Americans who are 18 and above, on different platforms of media, will average 3 hours and 23 minutes by 2018. (“eMarketer” is a research company about media-related topics).

Text message notifications comprise the total number of hours spent on phone screen time.

Never miss out on important details on office work when Microsoft Outlook Web App’s Text Messaging Notification feature has been set up on your phone.

This feature is available in the United States, Canada, and Romania. This is yet to be available in other locations. Supported mobile providers or operators for the United States are AT&T, Sprint PCS, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless; whereas in Canada, they are Bell and Telus Mobility; and for Romania, it is Orange Romania.

The Outlook Web Application can send notifications about missed calls, specific inbox rules, voice mail messages, and calendar events on your registered mobile. Significant details such as the person who called, or who sent the message, time of sending, initial lines of the e-mail or event are included in the text message. You must manually set it up on your Outlook Web application account so that this feature will be enabled on your end.

By heading to the Outlook Web App’s Settings, you can click on “Options”; then click on “Phone”; then click on “Text Messaging” ; set up by clicking on the drop-down menus for “country” and “mobile provider”; then click on “Turn on notifications”.

Text Message Notifications still champions accessibility since without internet connection, you can still be notified about e-mail messages from Microsoft Outlook Web Application. However, each text message received and sent has a corresponding charge from the mobile operator.

Microsoft 365 gets better once again. Microsoft 365 Business is an integrated full-packaged solution comprised of Office 365, Windows 10, and EMS. It is built for small to medium-sized businesses that have 300 or less users.

From its initial launch during the last Ignite 2017, it has been adding more features to answer the needs of small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and was made available to the public November 1, 2017

Three new key features are now available. SMBs who are still on their way to permeate the market need the tools because they would simplify their processes at a lower cost.

Listing can strengthen a brand’s presence online through various online search sources like Google, Facebook, Yelp, and Bing.  The basic details about the company like their address, contact number, and e-mail, as well as their services are essential to gain a potential lead. However, you don’t need to manually edit every listing on those sites mentioned because by encoding the changes through Microsoft 365 Business, every listing will be synchronized. Also, you can monitor the views through the Listing Dashboard

Through Microsoft 365 Business’s convenient invoice feature, you can monitor bills, outstanding balances, incoming payments; issue receipts to clients; and offer discounts. It also has a mobile application that  makes it easier for you to check your cash flow in real-time.  In addition, invoicing has a tax calculator that can be adjusted to the state where you are located.

Their connections feature also serves as an e-mail service and dispatcher where you can customize your template, drag photos and text, format the appearance, and add a call-to-action.  Launching an e-mail campaign, and measuring metrics can both be done here as you gain more leads from your recipient list. Also, the e-mail list will be updated so you can keep track of those who opened the e-mail.

At $20.00 per user per month, you can make the most of your business through Microsoft 365 Business’ newest features.

Dynamics Tenerife was officially announced by Microsoft General Manager Marko Perisic during the Directions North America 2017.  Directions North America 2017 is a conference for Microsoft Dynamics users who are small-to-medium business Microsoft partners. The latest integration to business models, news, methods, and updates about Dynamics are announced and revealed here.

The reconstruction of Dynamics signals the innovation that may continue to happen in the future.  Tenerife is a promising tool to fix the problem of its independent parts. Its value continues to flourish with more features and simplification.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella launched good news about the development of their products during Microsoft Ignite, a conference attended by IT professionals and other IT businessmen, on September 25-29, 2017, at Orlando, Florida, USA.

Nadella reiterated the importance of the “three timeless values: empower people, inclusive design, and build trust in technology” that are the foundation of these intelligent business solutions.

Microsoft 365 comes in new bundles namely, Education and F1. F1 is branded as the Microsoft 365 for frontline workers, those who are directly speaking to the customers. They are the sales team and the customer representatives. A sense of community is the goal for Microsoft 365 F1 since the heart of sales is the connection with the customers.   In F1, Microsoft StaffHub is more empowered because it is designed for employees to manage their work, time management, schedules, communication with colleagues, and where swapping shifts is made easy.  The embedded security with support feature of Microsoft 365 is FastTrack. Strengthening the customer’s assurance of protection has been solidified once more through this solution.

In Microsoft Ignite, they have reassured the audience that the focus of improvements in Azure is the need of the customers. The point-to-point solutions of Azure such as Azure Stack where another application can be built and installed.  Azure Reserved Instances(RI) are regraded to have its bestselling value with huge Volume Machine capacity.

Microsoft 365 and Azure are continuously innovating to bring more value to the customers with less cost but bigger value in terms of continual upgrades.

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, “It’s not about acquiring more business applications but connecting these business processes, and creating systems of action. Systems of intelligence {of Dynamics 365] are Sales Operations, People Operations (HR), Customer Support, and Field Operations.”

Microsoft Dynamics 365‘s upcoming updates are not only for improved viewing and user experiences but also created a breakthrough for sales, as well.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM continues to improve by addressing the needs of its customers. Additional features will be integrated to the Enterprise and Business editions of Dynamics 365. Theme and system customizations can now be applied with colors that can be assigned to the objects in the form. Features are bound to be more user-friendly since the unified interface will enable the user to see as many sections as possible in a single glance. One page with one view can be accessed through the Advanced Settings page. Readability will be improved with the inclusion of text wraps that will allow the viewer to see the full data that has been filled in.  The activity feed will also be updated so that the service team will be able to have the same view as the sales team.

Microsoft partnered with Dun & Bradstreet, a business data network company, in order to yield more leads through in-depth analyses and rich databases. This is destined to become a big step to gain and trace leads from D&B’s database of company information that includes over two hundred million businesses all over the world. This is highly beneficial for small to medium businesses that are users of Dynamics 365 because they are just starting to maximize their reach while exploring new possible clients.

With Dynamics 365’s ability to synchronize and organize data while turning everything into multifunctional use, data building and accessing information on leads will be a game changer for sales by speeding up the process for lead generation.

Satya Nadella, the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, had unboxed Microsoft 365 (a software package solution) that was developed for businesses and enterprises. This happened during Microsoft Inspire 2017, the biggest annual partner conference, held in Washington D.C., USA. Microsoft infuses three key business process-tailored programs: Office 365, Windows 10, Enterprise Mobility + Security in two variants of Microsoft 365.

True to Microsoft 365’s value propositions that include creativity, teamwork, simplicity, and security, business processes will be streamlined and simplified with Microsoft Enterprise and Business.

Microsoft 365 Enterprise is for large businesses that have more than 300 employees or users and includes Office 365 Enterprise, Windows 10 Enterprise, and Enterprise Mobility + Security.  In addition, Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3 and E5 are now available for purchase.

Microsoft 365 Business is especially tailored for small to medium businesses that have less than 300 employees. It is an innovative product that compressed Office 365 Business Premium with Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security, so that it would be economically priced for businesses that are small-scale compared to enterprises.

“In a world that is rapidly becoming digital, millions of jobs are fundamentally about digital transformation and digital capability that are being spread all over the world [and] that will have much broader impact in every economy [and] every society,” Nadella acclaimed.

He stressed that digital transformations of business processes (particularly in jobs) must be completely functional to the user in order to keep up with continuous modernization.

“To address the needs of these four digital transformation outcomes, […]empowering employees, engaging customers, optimizing operations, and changing the very business product or business model. We will thrive if we do our best to work in addressing the customer need across these four outcomes by industry, by geography.” Nadella stated.

He believes that the outcomes of digital transformation are attainable with Microsoft 365 that turns their products into solutions within business systems whether it is for an enterprise or a small to medium business.
